Sometimes in rescue, there are dogs that can not be adopted out. For various reasons ranging from medical to behavioral, and everything in between, these dogs are kept in our care, in a loving foster home for the rest of their lives.
Bailey came into rescue at the age of 8 weeks. He is a rottie, lab and came to poets vision because he is blind. His foster home and now sanctuary home was amazed to see how quickly he went from hiding in corners, to coming completely out of his shell. He was adopted out for a month, however the fit wasn't right and bailey needed his dog buddies. At the age of 6 months he had his first seizure, and for those that have seen seizures in dogs it sure is scary. After his seizures he would be disoriented for a day or so and seemed to have to relearn his environment, which was hard to watch a blind dog do, but he always did it. He was monitored closely and was having seizures approximately every 2 to 3 months, until he had his big one in February of 2015. He had about 7 in one night & spent the next 2 days touch and go in emerg. It was decided shortly after that Bailey would become a member of Poets Vision Aussie Rescue as a sanctuary dog and he would remain in his familiar foster home, with the people and dog friends he knew. His needs being great as his foster family did and continues to monitor him on a daily basis as his neurological issues cause him ups and downs. To date, with many wonderful vets watching over him, with closely monitored meds etc. He remains seizure free. He spends his days with the family he loves, playing with his dog mates, and is a very happy fellow. He spends his summers at the family cottage where he loves to play ball (yes) and go for swims. He is what Poets Vision stands for, and without Poets vision and their volunteers he would not have had the chance he's been given. We understand his life may not be long, but it sure will be full of love, compassion and fun! Bailey exudes happiness and goofy joy and says thankyou everyday in his own way. He is very special ❤
